Is PennyWise free to use?

Yes, PennyWise is completely free to download and use. There are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.

Do I need to create an account to use PennyWise?

No, PennyWise works immediately without any sign-up or account creation. Just download and start tracking your expenses.

Is my financial data private and secure?

PennyWise is private by default: your transactions are stored only on your device, with no account and no cloud sync. The one exception is the optional Auto-capture feature, which masks account and card numbers on your device and sends only a masked snippet to be read, transiently, and never stored. It is off unless you turn it on.

Does PennyWise read my bank SMS or notifications?

Only if you turn on the optional Auto-capture feature. When enabled, PennyWise reads incoming notifications from bank and wallet apps and turns them into draft transactions you approve. It is off by default, and you see a disclosure before enabling it. You can turn it off anytime.

Does Auto-capture need my bank login or account details?

No. Auto-capture never asks for your bank login, password, or account number, and there is no bank-account linking. It only reads the notification your bank already sent to your phone.

Is Auto-capture private and where does my data go?

Account and card numbers are masked on your device before anything leaves it. Only a masked snippet is processed transiently to extract the amount and merchant; it is never stored on a server. Every captured transaction is a draft you approve, edit, or reject.

Is PennyWise available on iOS?

PennyWise is currently available on Android. iOS version is coming soon - you can join our waitlist to be notified when it launches.

How do I add an expense in PennyWise?

Adding an expense takes just 3 taps: open the app, enter the amount using the number pad, select a category, and tap save. You can also quick-add expenses directly from the notification bar.

Can I track income in PennyWise?

Yes, PennyWise tracks both expenses and income. Simply toggle between expense and income mode when adding a transaction. The app includes 6 income categories: Salary, Freelance, Investment, Gift, Refund, and Other.

Does PennyWise sync across devices?

No. Your transactions stay only on your device and are never uploaded or synced to a cloud. This is a deliberate privacy choice. The optional Auto-capture feature is the only thing that touches the cloud, and only to read a masked notification snippet that is never stored.

What expense categories are available?

PennyWise includes 10 expense categories: Food & Dining, Transport, Entertainment, Shopping, Bills & Utilities, Health, Education, Travel, Groceries, and Other. For income, there are 6 categories: Salary, Freelance, Investment, Gift, Refund, and Other.
